A senior ISIS militant who plotted the Tunisia beach massacre in which 30 Britons died is believed to have been killed in a U.S. air strike on a training camp in Libya.

The bombing raid is thought to have killed 40 people including jihadi Noureddine Chouchane who was wanted over two terror attacks in Tunisia last year.

Intelligence officials said it was 'likely' he was among more than 30 ISIS recruits wiped out in the strikes on a building in the city of Sabratha where militants had gathered.

He is suspected of being behind two Tunisia attacks last year: one at the Bardo Museum that killed 22 people and the other at a beach resort in Sousse in which 38 died including 30 Britons.

The planes struck at 3.30 am (1.30am GMT), hitting a house in the western city of Sabratha, around 70km (42 miles) west of Tripoli near the border with Tunisia.
